Bored Dragon
Date: High School Senior, 2009-2010
Time: Several hours
Materials: Crayola Colored Pencil
Description: A colored pencil drawing of a dragon resting on top of some dark block, it looks bored. It is throwing a dart down to a black and white dart board where a rose is sticking out of the center, indicating that the darts he is throwing are actually roses. It looks almost like an optical illusion, like the dart board is floating on the water and the dragon is sitting on the horizon.
Artist’s Comments: In Art 2, the assignment was to draw an animal, a plant, and a game. I had to combine them in an interesting way. Originally, I couldn’t think of a game, but then I figured I could use roses as darts, so there you have it. My original idea was to have the dragon sitting on some wall, but the wall looked a little boring, so I shaded it as it is now and then it ended up looking like a sort of illusion of water.
