Dragon 3
Date: High School Junior, February, 2009
Time: Several hours
Materials: Mechanical 0.9 Pencil
Description: A flying dragon, shaped like an S and breathing fire. It is a near top view and its wings are spread out so you have a good view of them. Light coming from the left. Black, white, gray, pencil shading, three-dimensional, realistic.
Artist’s Comments: I drew a dragon, mainly focusing on the wings. Looking back at this, I feel like all the little things are wrong, unrealistic. The limbs of the wings, if you notice, are both bending toward the left of the page, on BOTH the left and right wings. They should be mirror images of each other (almost). Also, I remember when I drew this, someone said that the waist looked thin, so I tried to make it fatter, but now spines on the dragon around the waist look like they don’t go down the middle of its back. So that’s the only reason it looks strange there. Lastly, I didn’t know how to draw arms and legs well, you might be able to tell that I was hiding them artistically.
