Elemental Yin Yang
Date: High School Sophomore, 2008
Time: ~30 minutes
Materials: Crayola Colored Pencils
Description: Colored pencil drawing of four yin yang symbols, each with a different ‘element’. From left to right and top to bottom: Water, Wind, Fire, Earth (or plant). The Water yin yang symbol is Blue and Light (sky) Blue and resembles a drop of water. The Wind yin yang symbol is White and Purple (violet) and has light purple mist or smoke looking stuff coming up from it. The Earth or Plant yin yang symbol is Green and Light Green and has a leaf like shape to it. The Fire yin yang symbol is red and yellow and has fire coming out of it.
Artist’s Comments: I started experimenting with Crayola Colored Pencils and it turned out well enough. I had experience with Crayola in 4th grade. I used to color line-art in rainbows that blended together. (my rainbow coloring won me 1st place in my city’s Youth Library Bookmark Coloring Contest.) I didn’t use much of my blending of colors in this picture and only focused on the concept and the choice of colors.
