Snake and Orb 2
Date: High School Sophomore, 2008
Time: An hour or more (?)
Materials: Mechanical 0.9 pencil
Description: A pencil drawing (with good shading) of a long snake, twisted and turning. In its coils hold an orb. Its head is facing the viewer, eyes looking sinister and evil. Its mouth is open like it is about to strike. Serpent, mean, snake eyes, twisted, tangled, statue design, black, white, gray, shading.
Artist’s Comments: I dreamed a strange dream and decided to make a story out of it. One of the things I added to my story (it was not in my dream) was a shelf of figurines and miniature statues. This was one of my ideas, and it was only a sketch to see if I could make it look a certain way.
This was my second attempt. I somewhat improved and somewhat worsened in drawing the Snake and Orb figurine. I improved the head to look more realistic and I shaded it to look three-dimensional. However, since I was not tracing, I accidentally altered the body so the snake now looks like it bends in fairly sharp angles and does not look as serpentine. It is also tilted and doesn’t seem as centered as it was before. It is entertaining to see people try to follow the snake with their finger to see if it works. I assure you, it does.
